The tour begins with a scenic three hour drive down the highway towards Xunantunich. Many small villages can be seen along the way and the nation’s capital, Belmopan and the town of San Ignacio. Traveling West takes you a mile away from the Guatemalan border after which we will cross the Mopan River in a hand cranked ferry. The tour of Xunantunich, or the Stone Maiden begins! This beautiful Mayan ruin was a major ceremonial center and has several plazas and a large selection of classic period structures. The site also has El Castillo, the second tallest structure in Belize (after the temple at Caracol), at some 130 feet (40 m) tall. Those who are adventurous enough to climb to the top will be rewarded with panoramic views of Belize and Guatemala.
Then we head over to Jaguar Paw for zip lining and cave tubing. The zip lining area which consists of ten platforms and seven runs. The longest run is over 600 feet and the highest run is over 150 feet. All equipment is provided and you are guided by two experienced zip liners for the entire tour. All you have to do is gear up and experience the thrill of flying through the Belizean forest!
Our last tour is the cave tubing tour. The Maya thought that these caves led to Xibabla, an underworld ruled by the Maya death gods and their helpers in K’iche’ Maya mythology. Upon reaching the caves and the river, you can take a dip and admire the beauty of the rocks and cave entrance. After that you can tube down the river and into the caves that contain art work and interesting rock formations within.
This tour provides an experienced guide who has received CPR training in order to ensure your safety, as well as an A/C tour van to provide safe and comfortable transportation as you enjoy your trip!
